The future design of the International Charles Brooks Peace Fountain is still under consideration.
After bids for the design-build fountain came in over the $8.1 million estimate Windsor City Council is asking a consultant to have another look at their options.
The options include a "like-for-like" floating fountain alternative that is a scaled-down version of the old Peace Fountain. This would have maintenance and storage challenges similar to those of the previous fountain.
A land-based option is also being considered. It would reduce those risks and permit the potential for a winter lighting display. The upfront costs could cost more than the replica version.
A report with a technical feasibility review and budget estimates for each option along with updated operating and maintenance cost estimates will be presented to council later this year. A timeline for the installation of a new fountain will be determined at that time but it is unlikely to be in place by 2025.
