Home sales rose in Chatham-Kent in May, providing a much-needed boost for the region.
"Sales posted an unexpectedly strong bounce in May after remaining subdued for the previous several months," said Barbara McCaughrin, President of the Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors (CKAR). "May's boost in demand pushed us firmly back into a balanced market, but whether this is the beginning of a stronger return from buyers or simply a one-off event remains to be seen."
CKAR reported 150 homes were sold in May 2025 -- an increase of 28 per cent compared to the same month last year -- with 136 of those units being single detached homes.
Last month also saw Chatham-Kent's largest number of new listings for the month of May in over a decade.
There were 281 new residential listings in May, up 4.1 per cent from May 2024.
Active listings in Chatham-Kent were also at a decade-high, with 502 units on the market at the end of May. The number was 44.4 per cent above the five-year average and 53.8 per cent above the 10-year average for the month of May.
The average price of homes sold last month was $432,419, slightly up from the same time last year.
