A lifelong Sarnia resident is planning a trip out west with her recent lottery winnings.
Bernadette Orrange, won the grand prize draw in the St. Clair Catholic Education Foundation’s 50/50 Raffle for Schools, held on May 30.
It was the fundraisers largest jackpot to date, raising $30,430. Orrange goes home with $15,215.
The former educational assistant at St. Patrick's High School said she purchased a ticket because she has seen how important fundraising is for schools.
"I never expected to win, I just wanted to help out,” said Orrange in a news release. “When I saw the email, I was shocked. Then I got the call and it all felt real. It’s exciting, but the best part is knowing how much this helps students and classrooms."
Orrange said she plans to use part of her winnings for a long-awaited trip to visit her son out west.
The 50/50 Cash Raffle for Schools helps fund student learning and school-based initiatives across the district.
Participants have the opportunity to support the district or a school of their choosing.
In a media release, Director of Education Lisa Demers said the fundraiser is a simple yet meaningful way to give back directly to our schools,.
“We are so grateful to everyone who purchased a ticket," she said. "Your support creates opportunities for students that wouldn’t otherwise be possible.”
Another raffle will launch on July 13, 2025.
