Woman accused of assaulting police during domestic call

A 36-year-old Chatham woman who was wanted by police is facing more charges after she allegedly assaulted officers who were trying to help her.

Chatham-Kent police said they found the woman while they were responding to a call about reports of screaming at a residence on Queen Street in Chatham at around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers said the door was unlocked when they arrived and they announced their presence before going in.

Someone inside then reportedly closed the door on the officers, who proceeded to breach the door.

Police found a woman inside and learned she was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The woman then allegedly assaulted the officers who were trying to assist her and she was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer.

She was arrested and taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

Impaired driver calls police on himself

A 25-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing an impaired driving charge after he allegedly called police to check on him.

CK police said they were called to the vehicle as it was pulled over to the side of the road in Dover Township just after midnight Wednesday night.

Officers said the caller told them he had consumed several alcoholic beverages and was feeling unwell both mentally and physically.

When police arrived, they determined that the driver was operating the vehicle while impaired and he was arrested and taken to police headquarters for breath tests.

He was charged with impaired driving and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Traffic complaint leads to impaired driving charge

A call about an erratic driver led to a Chatham man's arrest overnight.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the area of Michener Road at 12:06 a.m. Thursday for that report and when officers arrived, they determined the driver was operating the vehicle while impaired.

The accused was then arrested and taken to police headquarters for breath tests before he was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
