Chrysler Pacifica hybrid no longer permitted on local ferries

Due to fire risks, a certain brand of hybrid vehicle no longer allowed on local ferries.

The Owen Sound Transportation Company released a statement on July 23 stating that effective immediately, 2017-21 Chrysler Pacifica Plug‑In Hybrids are no longer allowed on its ferries until a recall is complete.

Stellantis, which makes the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid model, issued a recall due to the risk of battery fire on July 18. The Owen Sound Transportation Company says none of these vehicles will be allowed back on its vessels until the repair recall is finished.

"Owen Sound Transportation Company (OSTC) places the safety of all passengers, crew members, and vessels as its utmost priority," said the company in the public notice.

Anyone who owns a 2017-21 Chrysler Pacifica Plug‑In Hybrid should check to see if their vehicle is affected. You can do so by visiting Mopar recalls and entering your VIN# after July 24.

Stellantis has advised owners not to recharge their vehicles or park near other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs are completed.

If you were planning to sail with one of the affected vehicles, you can call the reservations lines for more options: MS Chi-Cheemaun: 1-800-265-3163. Pelee Island Ferries: 1-800-661-2220.
