Film Festival to take over Kiwanis Theatre

Local and international films will be in the spotlight in Chatham this weekend

The Chatham-Kent International Film Festival will celebrate its seventh year this weekend.

The festival at the Kiwanis Theatre in Chatham opens Friday, October 24, and runs until Sunday, October 26, when they hand out the awards at 8:30 p.m.

A variety of genres and film types including shorts, features, documentaries, web series, and music videos will be featured. Several local films will be included.

"This year, surprisingly, it's a lot of Southwestern Ontario and local talent that made the roster, as opposed to more international. There is international film, but it is more local, and Chatham," said Founder and Festival Director Robert Bellamy.

"One of them (film makers) that we're bringing in is actually a native of the area. She lived in Walpole Island, and it’s a feature film called 'Nika and Madison.' That's actually screening Sunday night, just before the awards," said Bellamy. "There is another Chatham native who does a film called 'Nereid' and her name is Lori Zozzolotto."

"We Lend a Hand: The Forgotten Story of Ontario Farmerettes" will be screened on Friday, October 25, along with a documentary called "Cheryl" about the homeless in London.

There is also a special Halloween screening on Saturday, October 25.

"There are three short films, two of them are hilarious, and then we watch Nightmare on Elm Street," said Bellamy. "There's also a costume contest that’s sponsored by Lens Mill and Lindy Cosplay Supplies."

The full schedule can be found online at www.chathamkiff.com, and weekend passes and day passes can be purchased for each day through www.cktickets.com.
