Durham hospital to run cardiology, hip and knee replacement clinics

South Bruce Grey Health Centre is expanding outpatient services at one of its hospitals.

Starting this month, the Durham hospital will offer a cardiology clinic and pediatric mental health services.

Then in January, a hip and knee replacement clinic for pre-operative and post-operative care will be added.

“There is a very high demand for all of these services in our area, so this will be a welcome addition not only for the Durham site, but for the entire region,” Nancy Shaw, the president and CEO of South Bruce Grey Health Centre, said in a statement released on Tuesday. “We are thrilled to be able to support the delivery of these specialized services closer to home, minimizing travel for patients and families.”

The additional outpatient services will be supported by physicians from London Health Sciences Centre and Keystone Child Youth and Family Services. Dr. Gerard Shoemaker and Dr. Lorne Gula will support the cardiology clinic, while orthopedic surgeon Dr. Douglas Naudie will operate the hip and knee replacement clinic.
