Wallaceburg man faces assault charges

A 62-year-old man faces assault charges after an argument got out of hand.

Police were called to a home in Wallaceburg shortly after 3 a.m. on Wednesday for the report of an assault.

Investigators said a verbal argument between the man and a 61-year-old woman escalated, leaving the victim with multiple injuries.

The man was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where he was held for bail.

Eyewitness descriptions lead to arrest

CK police arrested a Chatham woman in connection with a theft in Wallaceburg.

According to police, officers were called to a retail store on McNaughton Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police were given the description of a 50-year-old woman and the vehicle she was driving after determining that she had taken several items without paying for them.

The suspect's vehicle was later spotted on Murray Street in Chatham, leading to her arrest, police said.

The woman has been charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. She has since been released from police custody with a future court date.

Chatham man charged with theft

A 58-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in connection with a shoplifting incident in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police stated that officers responded to a store on St. Clair Street just before 4:30 p.m. for the report of a theft in progress.

Investigators determined that the man clothed himself in merchandise and concealed even more on his person before attempting to leave the store. Police added that the suspect was confronted by a loss prevention officer before he left.

Video surveillance was used to identify the man, who was later found and arrested.

He was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
