One person has been charged with firearm-related offences following an incident just east of Chatham-Kent.

The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to Graham Street in West Lorne around 1 a.m. on New Year's Day for a disturbance involving three people.

Police say two people in a vehicle had an interaction with a third individual, but they were able to safely leave the area.

A 29-year-old from West Elgin is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and failure to comply with an undertaking.

He was held for a bail hearing and has since been remanded into custody.
